The Data Protection Academy supports capacity building and peer learning among data protection authorities and relevant public institutions from non‑EU countries. It provides a platform to exchange experiences with EU counterparts on the implementation and enforcement of data protection frameworks, governance challenges, and the implications of digitalisation for public services.
The third edition, hosted in Brussels by the European Commission, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), focused on reinforcing collaboration to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights in the digital era.
Since 2023, SIGMA, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the Regional School of Public Administration (ReSPA) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have collaborated to support partners in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership region in addressing key data protection challenges, in close co-operation with EU institutions and stakeholders.
