The launch event for the project “Support to national budget preparation, management and better public spending in Lebanon” brought together senior representatives from Lebanon’s Ministry of Finance, Parliament, public institutions, the European Union and international organisations to discuss priorities for strengthening public financial management. The initiative is implemented by SIGMA in co-operation with Lebanon’s Ministry of Finance and with funding from the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon.
Against the backdrop of prolonged economic and fiscal challenges, the project aims to support reforms that improve budget preparation, budget management and public spending practices. Discussions focused on the need for credible and transparent budgeting, realistic revenue forecasting, stronger expenditure planning and enhanced co-ordination across public institutions. The project will support the General Budget Directorate and other stakeholders involved in the budget process, helping to align Lebanon’s public finance management practices with international good practice and contribute to more effective public service delivery.
