The Civil Service Board and SIGMA organised a high-level conference attended by the Prime Minister, Mr. Nawaf Salam. The event gathered key Lebanese and international stakeholders, including the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Tarek Mitri, several ministers, directors general, heads of public bodies, senior Army officials, EU Delegation staff, and representatives from international organisations.
The conference addressed the urgent need to reform Lebanon’s public salary system, which has been severely eroded by the country’s economic crisis. In his keynote speech, SIGMA advisor Xavier Sisternas highlighted the importance of decent salaries as a cornerstone of public sector performance.
Discussions focused on a draft law developed by the Civil Service Board and the Ministry of Finance, with SIGMA’s support, to gradually realign public sector salaries in a fair and sustainable way. The aim is to restore the functionality of Lebanon’s public administration, improve service delivery, and rebuild public trust.
This event marked a significant step toward consensus on legal reforms that could help reinvigorate Lebanon’s civil service and ensure a more resilient and effective state.
