On 8-9 April 2026, SIGMA organised a workshop together with the State Audit Office (SAO) of the Republic of North Macedonia, under the auspices of the Network of SAIs of EU Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries. It focused on exploring the expectations for climate and environmental audit, and sharing practices and challenges in conducting relevant and impactful audits.
Experts shared insights from the recently developed UNDP Good Practice Guide for Climate Change Audits and the expectations for sustainability reporting in the public sector given the recent publication of the first public sector sustainability reporting standard by the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board.
During the sessions and panel discussions, Network SAIs and the Slovenian Court of Auditors, actively shared their experiences, best practices, and the challenges they face in conducting and reporting impactfully audits on environmental and climate issues. The event facilitated a meaningful and open exchange of experiences, practical approaches, and tools related to environmental and climate audits.
Recognising the diversity of institutional contexts and maturity levels, we aim to create further opportunities for SAIs to explore common challenges, identify shared priorities, and work towards delivering environmental and climate audits that are impactful nationally and regionally
