Colombia joins the OECD Development Centre

Colombia is the 10th non-OECD member country to join the Development Centre. Earlier this year, Egypt, Israel and Vietnam took their seats at the Centre’s Governing Board.

Ministerial Meeting at Council Level 2008

The economic impact of climate change, rising food prices and a broad range of other trade, growth and development issues were discussed at this year's OECD’s Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) at OECD headquarters in Paris on 4-5 June 2008.

Growth is weakening and inflation is likely to remain high across most OECD countries. US activity will stay flat through 2008 while the Euro area economy growth will be restrained by tighter credit and lower export market growth.

Agricultural commodity prices should remain high and grow more volatile, according to Dr Jacques Diouf, Director-General Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the OECD Secretary-General.

 OECD takes up the torch of gender equality and women’s empowerment
On 21 of May the Swedish Minister for Development Co-operation Gunilla Carlsson presented MDG3 champion torches to the OECD’s Secretary-General, Angel Gurría. The MDG3 Global Call to Action aims to increase international support and investments in the achievement of gender equality and women's empowerment.
