Tax-Benefit calculator, out-of-work replacement rates and country specific files for 2006

Statistics, country specific files and tax-benefit models and calculator, which provide detailed descriptions of all cash benefits available to those in and out of work as well as the taxes they were liable to pay in 29 OECD countries from 2006. "Benefits and Wages (2007) " is now available. 

New OECD book on The State of the Public Service

This new book takes stock of the main changes in the management of public services across OECD countries. It summarises the findings of the OECD Public Employment and Management working party over the past 15 years. Among other aspects, this book examines how countries find a balance between attention to fundamental values such as fairness, equity, justice and social cohesion, and a focus on efficiency, productivity and effectiveness. This book will help governments and the public better understand some of the complex issues involved in the management of the public service.

The Swedish labour market functions well for core workers, but the inclusion of youth could be improved. The OECD Economic Survey takes an economy-wide perspective and advocates both education and labour market policy measures. In particular, vocational programmes would make youth more job-ready.

Experts meeting - Employment and Skills Strategies in South-East Asia (ESSSA): Indonesia and the Philippines

The ILO and the OECD jointly organised an experts meeting on fostering employment and skills development strategies in Indonesia and the Philippines, as part of OECD LEED’s initiative on Employment and Skills Development in South East Asia (ESSSA), in Jakarta on 3 December 2008. The meeting addressed issues of decentralisation, partnerships, skills upgrading and integration of the disadvantaged in the labour market and learn the lessons from the OECD experience in these areas.

5th Annual Meeting of the OECD LEED Forum on Partnerships and Local Governance

The meeting will focus on Building Strong Partnerships with the Private Sector for Better Jobs and Inclusion. Public sector institutions increasingly understand that working with business at the local level is crucial for promoting quality jobs and social inclusion. Localities are gearing education and training to business needs. Some regions are upgrading local skills demand, working with business to improve productivity thus increasing the availability of good quality jobs. A collective response is required from industry, government, educational institutions, trade unions and community.

Inter-Agency Conference on Local Economic Development (LED), Turin, Italy

Capacity Building Seminar for New and Nascent Local Development Partnerships in Central-East and South-East Europe, Trento, Italy

The objective of this 2.5-day seminar is to improve the functioning of local partnerships. The seminar is aimed at local partnership practitioners and their counterparts in local and national governments. The seminar will focus on three main themes: (i) what makes local partnership building successful?; (ii) what are the key elements of a national support framework for local development partnerships?; and (iii) how to manage and improve performance?

Conference on "Partnerships for Social Inclusion", Melbourne, Australia

Increasing social inclusion requires a joined-up approach that cuts across policy departments. The public sector should re-think the way it operates, moving from a traditional hierarchical model to one characterised by multi-sectoral partnerships and flexibility in policy delivery. These topics will be discussed at this conference co-organised by the Centre for Public Policy at the University of Melbourne, the Victorian Department of Planning and Community Development and the OECD LEED Programme.
