OECD’s relations with Africa have been strengthened since the launching of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the dialogue organised in May 2002 between OECD Country Ministers and their colleagues on the NEPAD Steering Committee. This dialogue gave the OECD a mandate to co‑operate with NEPAD.
The African Economic Outlook feeds into the OECD’s efforts to support the NEPAD process by raising private sector awareness of it, by encouraging social dialogue and by serving as an important potential input to the African Peer Review Mechanism.
Various activities involving the participation of African countries are also carried out by the entities within the OECD Development Cluster: the Sahel and West Africa Club, the OECD Development Centre and the Development Assistance Committee. Moreover, the OECD supported the two-year exploratory phase of the Initiative for Central Africa (INICA) and is the designated host of the Support Unit of the Africa Partnership Forum.
