South-East Europe

Since 2000, OECD’s regional activities in South-East Europe have been aimed at supporting the development and implementation of structural reforms in support of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe. The OECD was a founding partner of the Stability Pact, which was set up in 1999. It will continue to participate in the work done under the auspices of the Regional Co-operation Council which will replace the Stability Pact as of 2008.

The OECD co-chairs the Investment Compact, which aims to boost private sector investment in the region. It is also active in other initiatives collaborating on concrete steps for the reform of education, the promotion of trade, the improvement of governance and the fight against corruption.

  • Stability Pact Anti-Corruption Initiative

The Stability Pact Anti-Corruption Initiative is the spearhead of the international community to fight corruption in the region. It sets out a number of priority measures that include: adhering to international instruments, promoting good public governance, strengthening legislation and promoting the rule of law, promoting transparency and integrity in business; and promoting an active civil society.

  • Investment Compact for South-East Europe

The Investment Compact for South-East Europe promotes structural policy reform by encouraging private sector development and creating a favourable environment for domestic and foreign direct investment. Policy areas include: investment policies and promotion strategies, small and medium-sized enterprise support structures, fiscal reform and taxes, competition law and policy, corporate governance, and accounting reforms.
