OECD area GDP down 0.1% in the third quarter of 2008

In the United States GDP fell by 0.1% in the third quarter of 2008, the first contraction since the third quarter of 2001. Japan's GDP declined by 0.1%, following a 0.9% fall in the previous quarter. GDP in the euro area was down by 0.2%, the same rate of decline as in the previous quarter.

OECD composite leading indicators (CLIs) for September 2008 indicate a continued weakening outlook for all the major seven economies, with cyclical slowdowns at levels not seen since the beginning of the decade.

Annual inflation in the OECD area at 4.5% in September 2008

Consumer prices in the OECD area rose by 4.5% in the year to September 2008, compared with 4.7% in the year to August 2008. Month-on-month, the price level remained stable in September, compared with a decrease of 0.1% in August.
